Charity Health Fair 2012

Date: 20-22.4.2012 @ 10am-8pm
Venue: tHe Spring, Kuching
Members attended: Derbe, Kuek Hoon, Melissa, Audrey C, Joanne, Jenny, Pei Pei, Alex, Jason, Audrey W, Eng Eng, Siaw Ching, Cynthia, Gladys (new member)

The Charity Health Fair 2012 was jointly organized with the Sarawak State Health Department. The main objective of this project was to increase health awareness among the public by providing free health screenings, information, health related demonstrations and activities.

Members turned up in force at 10pm on 19.4.2012 (the night before the event) to help with the setting up.The last of us only managed to leave at 1.30am.



 The event was arranged in 3 main sections – Health Screening, Booths and Exhibitions.
 
Health screening area

Health Screening
The free tests included Body Mass Index (BMI), Cholesterol, Blood Pressure, Blood Glucose, Fat measurement, Bone density (by BP Healthcare) and Hearing (by Gnosis). Dieticians and doctors were also on hand to offer diet and health counseling. Members of the public started lining up for the health screening from as early at 9.30am on Friday 22.4.2012.

Booths
In the booths section, there were 10 participating companies promoting their health related products and services. The booths were: BP Healthcare Group, Gnosis Professional Hearing Services, Indulgence Spa & Reflexology, Abbot MND, Public Mutual Fund, Slimming Sanctuary, Micromedic Sdn Bhd, Blacksmore, 3A Pharma Sdn Bhd and Swiss BioMedics.














Exhibition stands
There were also various exhibition stands at the event: Your Medicine Exhibition, Drugs & counterfeit products, Organ Donation Campaign, Breast cancer awareness (by Sarawak Breast Cancer Association), Diabetes awareness, HFM disease, Smoking cessation, Systemic lupus erythematosus awareness (by Persatuan SLE Malaysia), Lions (by New Century Lions Club of Kuching Emerald).

In all, over 600 people benefitted from the health screening and many more visited the exhibitions and booths. We also managed to raise about RM3,000 for our project fund. This money will be utilized to fund other charity projects in future.   

We would like to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to the Sarawak State Health Department and all their staff that participated in the event. In particular, we wish to thank Mr. Robin Tan and Ms. Melissa Lim (also our club member) for all their help and guidance.
