Reach Out 2007 - Kpg. Empasak : Project report
Project: Reach out 2007
Venue: Kpg. Empasak
Date: 20.12.2007
Pre-visit reports can be found at CK's blog or here.
The project was carried out in 3 ‘parts’: -
(1) Children’s Christmas party
(2) Health screening
(3) Donation of necessities to the villagers of Kpg. Empesak
(1) Children’s party
This was a joint project with the Serian Parish volunteer group and the Lions Club of Serian. In all, the party brought cheer to 120 to 130 children, age 6 to 12, from 3 villages - Kpg. Empesak, Tong Nibong and Paon Gahat – from the Balai Ringin area. For many of these children, this is their first party and the first they’ve ever received a present. Thank you for helping us put a smile on their excited little faces!
Donated items: -
(a) 60 sets of presents
(b) 130 party packs
(c) Food – Fried Bee Hoon & Watermelons (sponsored by LC Serian)
(2) Health Screening
This stage of the project was jointly carried out with the Sarawak British Alumni Association. It would not have been possible without SBAA or Dr. Law Siik Tien & Dr. Lai Kee Hoe from SGH, Dr. Zoe Lau Tien Fei from Serian Hospital and Medical Assistant Dev Nath Kaushal from Normah Hospital.
The health screening benefited an estimate of 150 - 200 adults and children from the 3 villages of Kpg. Empesak, Tong Nibong and Paon Gahat. Services provided on the day included medical check-up and distribution of medical goods such as vitamins, de-worming pills and anti-lice shampoo.
(3) Donation of necessities to the villagers of Kpg. Empasak
The village consists of 10 families, totaling at 61 residents. New Century Lions Club of Kuching Emerald managed to raise a total cash donation of RM3,110.00 and this was utilised to purchase various necessities for the villagers. We also received sponsorship in kind and donation of 2nd hand clothes. The donated items were handed over to the villagers on 20.12.2007 as well.
